The Ambiance 

With a cobblestone floor, wooden accents and Urdu poetry verses such as Mir Taqi Mir’s “Ibtada E Ishq Hai Rota Hai Kya, Aagay Aagay Dekhiye Hota Hai Kya” painted in places, Junoon’s spacious rooftop is one of the chicest places for a romantic rendezvous in Lahore.

As the sun dips, boxy spiral lights illuminate the rooftop while long rectangular box-like Japanese style lanterns gently sway in places, giving the place a magical feel.

There is a bonfire pit in the centre of the rooftop, lit when Lahore’s temperature drops during winter nights, adding cosines and visual appeal.

The Food

With a menu featuring specialties such as mixed grill platters, Chinioti Mutton, Palak Gosht, Chaamp Masala and Texali Chicken, Junoon has all your desi food cravings covered.

There several types of biryani on the menu as well such as Sindhi Biryani and a vegetarian Nauratan Biryani  (Pro Tip: Request your server to have the biryani made on the spicier side and mix all the biryani layers well on the serving dish before eating!).

From the well thought out vegetable and lentils section, Rasmisay Rajma, a rich, boldly flavoured kidney bean curry, is a great alternative to the ubiquitous Daal Maash.

The fusion Gulab Jaman Cheesecake, available in both regular & chocolate versions is worth trying for folks who appreciate experimental desserts.

Though the menu is Pakistani, some of the cooking methods and spices used give the food here a bit of a mixed subcontinental flavour.

The Prices 

Junoon is slightly expensive than your average mid-priced restaurant, but an enjoyable meal here won’t exactly put a sizeable dent in your wallet either.

Timings 

Junoon opens at 12:30 pm and the rooftop is accessible all day until the restaurant closes around midnight.

Reservations

This is a popular restaurant and if celebrating a special occasion here, definitely book a rooftop table in advance.
